History
Infinity Cup 7
After facing off against rival team /otter/ during the friendly test matches (and winning), the team of raccoons and friends was drawn into the catastrophic Group C along with /monster/, /k/ and /yuri/.
Group Stage
/pro/ vs. /monster/
The group stage got off to a good start with a resounding 2-0 victory against the /monster/s, in spite of a player in /pro/'s starting lineup being in the wrong position and in low condition. It was a hard earned victory, as both teams performed well, enjoyed equal possession and lots of shots on goal. In the end, the aggressive quick passing and countering tactic of the raccoons, stealing the ball off the opposing strikers and quickly sending it forward to the officers was successful. Rabies Superspreader managed to dribble past the defense off of a cheeky one-two pass by Detective Raccoon and spread the ball into the goal in the 50th minute, putting /pro/ ahead by a 1-0 lead. Later, just after Grasstains' mic started working again, Ringtail pulled off a nice cross in from the right side directly to the Detective's little feet, who slotted it straight into the corner past Ridley and gave /pro/ a 2-0 victory.
/pro/ vs. /yuri/
The raccoon's second match turned sour for them, as despite plenty of goal scoring opportunities from both teams, they couldn't manage to find a good enough finish. The first half ended goalless, but the opponent /yuri/'s attackers managed to pass in a long ball from the near flank that the defending coatis couldn't stop and score a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute. /pro/'s numerous attempts to get an attack going continued to be shut down by the opposing defense until /yuri/ scored again in the 69th minute via a cheeky header from a corner kick, sealing the match at 2-0 for the lesbians.
And then it turns out that both of those games were played on incorrect tactics for /pro/, so they were voided and had to be played again.
/pro/ vs. /monster/ II
A rematch that started explosively, with /monster/ going on the offensive. Two fouls in /pro/'s half were followed by 3 raccoons in a trenchcoat getting at the end of a quick series of passes and managing to dribble the ball past two defenders, firing an unstoppable ball at close range and putting /pro/ 1-0 ahead in only the 5th minute of the game. This would be the first and last goal of the match as every further goal scoring opportunity from either team was replaced with posts, wide shots, missed crosses or saves, and the match ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for the raccoons. Of course, everyone was very eager to point out how /pro/ lost one score in the goal difference and therefore should have just accepted the matches played with incorrect tactics.
/pro/ vs. /yuri/ II
This match got into gear even faster than the previous one. The starting whistle had barely sounded off when /yuri/'s number 32 scored a direct hit on the goal, putting them ahead in the second minute of the game. This was almost followed by another goal by /yuri/ in the 5th minute, when a very similar run led to a very similar shot by the same opponent player, who got the ball past the goalkeeper only to end up hitting the post. /pro/'s goalkeeper was very busy throughout the match, with 7 shots by /yuri/ after only the first half, compared to a single shot by /pro/. However, as grim as things were looking for the raccoons in the first half, their helplessness ended in the second half. The start of the half saw them immediately on the attack, undisturbed by the defenders' attempts to intercept their passes. Constable Raccoon got into position in front of the goal and tucked it in with ease in the 49th minute, giving /pro/ the equalizer they were looking for. A quick counter attack then finally put the raccoons ahead when Detective Raccoon managed to outsmart two defenders and thread in a volley off past a diving Tylenol. However, this fortunate turn of events for the raccoons was quickly followed by a first time shot volley by opponent forward ShizNat only a few minutes later, tying up the game at a final score of 2-2.
/pro/ vs. /k/
A boring match where nothing happened until /k/ scored one goal at the last minute. This 0-1 defeat sealed /pro/'s fate and eliminated them from the tournament.
'And then it turns out that all of those games were still being played on incorrect tactics for /pro/, so they were voided and had to be played again.
/pro/ vs. /monster/ III
The second round of rematches began with everyone being glad to see the raccoons play again. Now finally played on the correct tactics, the match got off to a slow start. Quite a few promising shots from both teams ultimately ended fruitless, and the first half finished in a 0-0 tie. The second half got on well for /monster/s as they managed to cross a long goalkick by Ridley into the box for a finish by Wankandan Hellhound, putting themselves ahead 1-0 at 53 minutes into the game. But /monster/'s hopes at finally winning a game were dashed scarcely ten minutes later, after a throw-in from Ebola-chan was confiscated by an officer who quickly passed it along for a counter attack. 3 raccoons in a trenchcoat snuck past the defense undetected and got into position to receive a pass in front of the goal and prick it into the corner, delivering the final score of a 1-1 draw.
/pro/ vs. /yuri/ III
This is the match where patience finally paid off for /pro/. /yuri/ started the game off with their typical aggression, but their runs on the near side were now being intercepted and immediately sent forward. As the raccoons were on the prowl in /yuri/'s box, a long clearance by an opponent defender landed directly at Coati's feet. Passing their way through the defender's attempts to intercept, /pro/ got the ball to Rabies Superspreader, who landed a direct first time hit straight past three defenders and the goalkeeper. The score was now 1-0, which took spectators by surprise considering /pro/'s previously poor showings against /yuri/. Despite their early lead, the raccoons by no means rested on it, as they were playing to win and kept the attack alive. Just twenty minutes later, a shot by Detective Raccoon got stopped and parried out by /yuri/'s goalkeeper, leading to a corner kick. And Detective Raccoon remained on the case, as he got up to a strong header - despite his height - and put /pro/ 2-0 ahead. /yuri/'s reply came very late into the game, with their star forward Miko Embrace getting a very long volley into the back of the net at 86 minutes. Thus, the match ended 2-1 for the raccoons, and they finally recorded a win against /yuri/.
/pro/ vs. /k/ II
The match where /pro/ showed the world what they can do. It only took 3 raccoons in a trenchcoat five minutes to score their first goal, and they left the pitch that day with more than a hattrick - 4 goals - to their name, already giving them a strong case for the sought-after Golden Boot accolade. The goals kept coming for the raccoons: It was powerful volleys into the net from the edge of the box or dribbles and passes past the /k/ defenders who couldn't keep up with the nimble little creatures. /k/'s attempts at an attack were not up to the task of facing the defending coatis, and they ended up with no shots on target as the match ended in an astonishing 5-0 victory to the raccoons.
And with that, /pro/'s many rematches paid off for them, as they punched their ticket to the
